The Children of Israel — descendants of Yaʿqub (Israel) — to whom Musa, Harun, Dawud, Sulayman, Zakariyya, Yahya, and Isa were sent as prophets; addressed extensively in the Quran with both honour and reproach.
Overview
Banū Isrāʾīl (Arabic: بَنِي إِسْرَائِيل; "Children of Israel") are the descendants of Yaʿqūb (Jacob), whose by-name was Isrāʾīl. The Quran addresses them extensively, with both honour — naming the prophets sent to them — and reproach for repeated breaches of covenant.
The major prophets sent to Bani Isra'il named in the Quran include: Yaʿqūb, Yūsuf, Musa, Hārūn, Dāwūd, Sulaymān, Ilyās, al-Yasaʿ, Yūnus, Zakariyyā, Yaḥyā, and ʿĪsā.
