An-Naba

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

The great news

  1. عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَAbout what are they asking one another?
  2. عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلْعَظِيمِAbout the great news —
  3. ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَconcerning which they differ.

The twofold warning

  1. كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَNo indeed; they will come to know.
  2. ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَAgain, no indeed; they will come to know.

Signs of creation I

  1. أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِهَـٰدًاHave We not made the earth a resting place,
  2. وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًاand the mountains as pegs,
  3. وَخَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًاand created you in pairs,
  4. وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًاand made your sleep a rest,
  5. وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ لِبَاسًاand made the night a covering,
  6. وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشًاand made the day for livelihood,

Signs of creation II

  1. وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًاand built above you seven mighty heavens,
  2. وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًاand placed a blazing lamp,
  3. وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِ مَآءً ثَجَّاجًاand sent down from the rain clouds water pouring forth,
  4. لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًاthat We may bring forth thereby grain and plants,
  5. وَجَنَّـٰتٍ أَلْفَافًاand gardens dense with growth?

The Day of Decision

  1. إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَـٰتًاIndeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time.
  2. يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًاOn the Day the trumpet is sounded, and you come forth in throngs,
  3. وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَٰبًاand the sky is opened and becomes as gateways,
  4. وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًاand the mountains are set in motion and become a mirage.

Hell lies in wait

  1. إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًاIndeed, Hell lies in wait,
  2. لِّلطَّـٰغِينَ مَـَٔابًاa place of return for those who transgress,
  3. لَّـٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحْقَابًاwho will remain in it for ages upon ages,
  4. لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًاtasting in it neither coolness nor any drink,
  5. إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًاonly scalding water and a dark, festering fluid —
  6. جَزَآءً وِفَاقًاa recompense precisely fitting their deeds.

Why the reckoning came

  1. إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًاIndeed, they were a people who did not expect any reckoning,
  2. وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كِذَّابًاand they denied Our signs with utter, willful denial.
  3. وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَـٰهُ كِتَـٰبًاYet everything We have recorded in a Book, set down in full.
  4. فَذُوقُوا۟ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًاSo taste — for We shall never increase you in anything but torment.

The reward of the God-conscious

  1. إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًاIndeed, for those mindful of God there is a place of triumph,
  2. حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعْنَـٰبًاgardens and grapevines,
  3. وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًاand youthful companions of equal age,
  4. وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًاand a cup filled to the brim.
  5. لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّٰبًاThey will hear in it neither idle talk nor any lie.
  6. جَزَآءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًاA recompense from your Lord, a gift amply bestowed,
  7. رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًاLord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, the All-Merciful — none shall have power to address Him.

The True Day

  1. يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ صَفًّا ۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًاOn the Day when the Spirit and the angels stand in ranks, none shall speak except the one whom the All-Merciful permits, and who says only what is right.
  2. ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًاThat is the True Day. So whoever wills, let him take a way of return to his Lord.
  3. إِنَّآ أَنذَرْنَـٰكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلْكَافِرُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ تُرَٰبًۢاIndeed, We have warned you of a punishment drawing near, on a Day when a person will look upon what his own hands have sent ahead, and the one who denied the truth will cry out, "Would that I had been dust!"
