Bridles of Hell أَزِمَّة جَهَنَّم

In review — pending scholar verification

In an authentic hadith, Hell is described as having seventy thousand bridles drawn by seventy thousand angels each — emphasising the immensity of its restraint and the futility of resistance.

Overview

The Bridles of Hell (Arabic: أَزِمَّة جَهَنَّم) appear in an authentic hadith describing how Hell will be brought forth on the Day of Judgement:

ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd reported the Prophet ﷺ said: "On the Day of Resurrection, Hell will be brought, having seventy thousand bridles; with each bridle there will be seventy thousand angels who pull it." Sahih Muslim 2842

The image conveys both the immensity of Hell — restrained only by overwhelming angelic power — and the futility of any resistance to it.
